“This Is History” – Says Gov’t Chief Whip Denis Hamson Obua, as 1 Million People Are Expected To Gather at Kololo for Gen. Muhoozi’s 52nd Birthday Marathon 2026

Today, April 24, 2026, marks a defining national moment as Uganda celebrates the 52nd birthday of Gen.Muhoozi Kainerugaba, a day that has evolved beyond a personal milestone into a symbol of patriotism, unity, and national transformation.

With anticipation building toward a historic gathering at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds this Sunday, government leaders, legislators, youth, and citizens across the country are rallying behind what is now being described as one of the largest patriotic and charity-driven events in Uganda’s recent history. An estimated one million Ugandans are expected to participate in the 2026 Birthday Marathon under the theme “Run for Hope.”

“This Is History” – Obua Declares

Government Chief Whip, Hon.Denis Hamson Obua has set the tone with a powerful declaration: “This is history.” His remarks capture the magnitude of a celebration that blends fitness, philanthropy, and national identity into one movement.

During a courtesy visit to the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Secretariat, Obua secured participation kits for the marathon, emphasizing the deeper significance of the initiative.

According to him, the theme “Run for Hope” resonates profoundly with regions like Northern Uganda, where communities have journeyed from conflict to recovery.

“Every step in this run symbolizes our progress from pain to healing, and from despair to opportunity,” Obua noted.

“It is a reminder of how far we have come and a call to keep moving forward with unity, strength, and hope.”

His message reframes the marathon as more than an event, it is a national reflection of resilience and a collective commitment to a better future.

Presidential Message: A Life Born in Resistance

In a heartfelt message, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni paid tribute not only to Gen. Muhoozi but also to the broader journey of Uganda’s resistance generation.

The President highlighted the historical context of Muhoozi’s life, noting that he was “born in the resistance, grew up in the resistance,” and has since contributed significantly to Uganda’s stability, particularly in strengthening the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF).

Museveni emphasized Gen. Muhoozi’s role in enhancing military professionalism, fighting corruption within the armed forces, and boosting operational capability describing these as key contributions to national security.

National Leadership Rallies Behind the Marathon

Across the political spectrum, leaders have aligned in support of the celebration and the upcoming marathon.

Deputy Speaker Rt.Hon.Thomas Tayebwa joined senior PLU leaders at the Naguru headquarters, describing Gen. Muhoozi as a patriot who continues to safeguard Uganda’s stability. He called on citizens to participate in the Kololo run, noting that all proceeds will go toward charitable causes.

Similarly, Hon.Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi highlighted the growing momentum at the PLU Secretariat, where senior officials, supporters, and partners gathered to celebrate the General’s birthday and mobilize for Sunday’s event.

On the youth front, Hon.David Kabanda confirmed that the National Youth Council leadership had formally joined the celebrations, purchasing kits and pledging active participation an indicator of the event’s strong appeal among Uganda’s younger generation.

A Movement Beyond Celebration

The 52nd birthday marathon is not just about commemoration, it is shaping into a national movement. The “Run for Hope” initiative ties physical fitness to social impact, with funds expected to support vulnerable communities across the country.

The event also follows a high-level dinner attended by over 300 Members of Parliament, further underscoring the broad institutional support behind the celebrations. At that gathering, calls for patriotism, unity, and ideological clarity dominated discussions, reinforcing the narrative that Gen. Muhoozi’s birthday has become a rallying point for national consciousness.

Kololo: The Stage for a Historic Gathering

All eyes now turn to Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, where the convergence of up to one million participants could set a new benchmark for civic mobilization in Uganda.

From political leaders to ordinary citizens, from war-affected communities to urban youth, the marathon is expected to draw a cross-section of Ugandan society each participant carrying a shared message of hope, resilience, and patriotism.

Conclusion: A Birthday That Defines a Moment

At 52, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba stands at the center of a celebration that transcends personal achievement. It is a moment deeply woven into Uganda’s historical narrative linking past struggles, present unity, and future aspirations.

As Hon. Obua aptly declared, this is history. And come Sunday, as millions gather and thousands run, Uganda will not only celebrate a birthday “it will showcase a nation in motion, running together toward hope, unity, and a shared destiny”
