The Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) has introduced a landmark numbering system for its members, highlighting the historic contributions of its founders and leadership. The announcement, made by PLU chairman Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, assigns unique “Patriotic Officer” (PO) numbers to members of the organization’s Central Committee, the top decision-making body of the party.
According to the statement released by PLU, the numbers are designed to reflect each member’s role in the founding of the organization as well as their seniority within the party. Chairman Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba himself has been assigned PO 001, signifying his position as the founding leader.
Prominent journalist and political commentator Andrew Mwenda is listed as PO 002, underscoring his pivotal role in the establishment of the PLU. Other key members of the Central Committee have been similarly recognized, including Michael Nuwagira (Toyota) – PO 003, Edwin Karugire – PO 004, and Daudi Kabanda – PO 005. The numbering continues through members such as Balaam Barugahare (PO 006), Michael Mawanda (PO 007), Lillian Aber (PO 008), and the late Cedric Babu (PO 009).
The statement also includes Frank Gashumba (PO 010), Henry Basaliza (PO 011), and Fadil Twala (PO 012), completing the initial set of numbers for Central Committee members. PLU officials emphasized that additional numbers will be assigned in due course to members outside the Central Committee.
In explaining the significance of the system, the PLU highlighted that the numbers are more than administrative identifiers, they symbolize recognition, honor, and the historic legacy of the league’s members. This initiative comes at a time when the movement is seeking to reinforce unity and continuity among its leadership ranks, providing both a tangible record of contribution and a structured hierarchy for future operations.
As the Patriotic League of Uganda continues to consolidate its organizational structure, this numbering system is expected to become a key reference point in official communications and internal party activities.
