Gen Muhoozi Signals Political Direction, Backs PLU Cadres and Declares War on Corruption

In a series of assertive and symbolic tweets today, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba set political circles abuzz, outlining endorsements, signaling internal consultations, and sharply identifying corruption as Uganda’s most urgent national threat.

The Chief of Defence Forces opened with a characteristically symbolic message:

The reference to the Bachwezi, a legendary ancient dynasty in the Great Lakes region carried cultural and political undertones, positioning Hon David Kabanda as a trusted ideological and representational voice within the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) space.

Hon.Kabanda responded with gratitude and loyalty:

“I appreciate the appointment as a representative of all the Bachwezi here… I will speak for the Bachwezi without fear.”

The exchange reflects not just camaraderie, but consolidation within PLU ranks, where loyalty and symbolism continue to shape political messaging.

Backing Hon. Oryem and Adonia for Foreign Affairs

On matters of government formation, Gen. Muhoozi made his stance unmistakably clear:

“For the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs, I would be a criminal if I didn’t support my big brother Hon. Okello Oryem.”

The endorsement of Hon. Okello Oryem shows confidence in continuity and experience within Uganda’s diplomatic leadership. Hon. Oryem for long has been associated with the Foreign Affairs docket, represented institutional memory in Uganda’s external relations.

Additionally, Gen. Muhoozi expressed support for:

“Ambassador @adoniaayebare for Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.”

This nod to Adonia Ayebare, a seasoned diplomat and Uganda’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, suggests preference for technocratic depth and global credibility in the country’s foreign policy team.

PLU Members “Under Assessment”

Gen Muhoozi further hinted at internal evaluations underway:

“I’m sure our other senior members of PLU shall also get positions once Mzee finishes assessing them. Including Hon. @DaudiKabanda.”

The mention of “Mzee” is widely understood to refer to President  Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, Uganda’s long-serving Head of State. The statement indicates that consultations remain ongoing at the highest level, reinforcing the centralized nature of key political decisions.

Hon. Kabanda, once again, responded with strong words of allegiance:

“On behalf of PLU, the people of Kasambya and myself… I pledge to serve with utmost loyalty and dedication.”

The exchange demonstrates growing confidence within PLU that its members are positioning themselves for greater national responsibility.

On the Speakership — Consultation First

When pressed about the Speakership and other top parliamentary positions, Gen. Muhoozi exercised restraint:

“As for Speaker and all the other positions you are asking me about. I shall consult Mzee and get back to you.”

The response reflects deference to established structures of consultation while maintaining influence in shaping discourse.

Corruption Named as Uganda’s Biggest Enemy

Perhaps the most defining statement of the day came in his blunt diagnosis of the country’s challenges:

“The biggest problem in Uganda right now is CORRUPTION!! That’s the enemy that needs to be defeated.”

In a political environment where governance reforms remain a central public concern, the CDF’s direct framing of corruption as the principal enemy sets a clear narrative line, one that resonates across generational and partisan divides.

A Strategic Day of Messaging

Today’s tweets reveal several strategic layers:

  • Consolidation of PLU internal loyalty

  • Clear endorsements in the Foreign Affairs docket

  • Deference to presidential consultation on top appointments

  • Framing corruption as the central national battle

In conclusion, the messaging is not accidental. It blends symbolism, loyalty, policy positioning, and reform rhetoric pointing to a political actor who understands both digital influence and institutional hierarchy.

As consultations continue, one message stands out clearly from today’s online declarations: the fight against corruption, in Gen. Muhoozi’s framing, is not optional,  it is existential.
